Arizona state laws and regulations
Unlike other states, Arizona has no set law regarding cracks and damages to a car’s front window. This does not mean that a car cannot be ticketed for a cracked or damaged front window. According to Arizona’s state driver’s license manual, vehicles must have a front window, and the front window must have no cracks. Drivers pulled over and cited for a damaged or cracked front window may face several different violations because there is no state law governing what constitutes a damaged or cracked front window. Fines for a cracked front window vary from county to county, but average fines range from $100-$200. Due to the lack of state-wide laws detailing what constitutes “too much front window damage”, each officer is allowed to use their discretion when deciding to cite a person for a front window obstruction violation.
Arizona also has unique state laws regarding vehicle front window repair and insurance. According to ARS 20-263, insurance companies cannot raise a customer’s rates for any claim regarding front window vehicle repairs when the customer was not at fault and the customer has a comprehensive insurance policy. This means that any “no-fault” damage, such as vandalism or damage resulting from burglary, will not raise the rates for Arizona comprehensive insurance policy holders.
