Why are the PIAA Silicone Wiper Blades the Best Choice for Your Car?

PIAA is an industry leader when it comes to wipers, and their blades are mostly made of silicone instead of the typical rubber. Silicone wiper blades have their advantages and, of course, disadvantages, but we’ll talk about that later. For now, all I will say is that PIAA silicone wipers are of premium quality.

Picture this: You are driving on a stormy night. There is nobody else around, but the rain is getting heavier. You turn on the wipers as the water drops start smudging your windshield. Now, everything in front is blurry, but at least you can still see somewhat. I have been in that situation, and I can tell you that it’s no fun. That’s why I prefer silicone to rubber wipers (but you can decide for yourself – read my Silicone or Rubber Wiper Blades? Which Ones to Buy?)

The PIAA silicone wiper blades are one of the best on the market, and they are durable and practical. So if you are looking for new blades, then take a look at this article and consider whether PIAA is right for you.

PIAA Si-Tech

In 1963, a small Japanese company was born with only one goal—to make top-class automotive lighting. More than 50 years later, PIAA manufactures the best sports lighting, silicone windshield wipers, high-performance light bulbs, horns, and silicone windshield coatings.

Why Are PIAA Silicone Wiper Blades So Good?

PIAA wiper blades use the highest-grade silicone on the market. They have a couple of options available, with their Si-Tech being the most popular. It has a frameless design that creates more pressure points across the entire length of the blade for streak-free wiping. The blade’s silicone rubber continually reapplies an active silicone coating on the windshield, reinforcing that streak-free look.

The company’s quality does not only come from the materials or design, and they follow the strict Japanese Industrial Standards method for physical testing of vulcanized rubber. Thus, only the best of the best make it to the market.

What Distinguishes a PIAA Wiper Blade from Other Wiper Blades?

Apart from using quality materials, practical designs, and following strict industry standards, the PIAA silicone wiper blades are aesthetic and functional.

Premium products require a premium look. The PIAA wipers are no exception to this rule. Their smooth packaging and seamless design make the blades stand out from the competition. Each product is color-coded, with blue representing Aero Vogue, green for Si-Tech, and red for Super Silicone. The front displays the unique advantages of the product. On the other hand, the back illustrates the proper PIAA Wiper Blades installation process. All of these distinguish the PIAA wiper from the competition.

What Are the Design and Features of the PIAA Si-Tech Blade?

We already went over the frameless design and silicone coating that ensures a streak-free windshield. However, the PIAA Si-Tech wiper blades have much more going for them. The blades are quiet and smooth in their operation. What’s more, they eliminate any snow and ice build-up—thanks to the design.

The aerodynamic design can withstand any weather condition and is even heat- and ozone-resistant. However, the best parts have to be the universal application and the fact that, in general, silicone rubber lasts at least two times longer than traditional blades.

PIAA is so confident in their wiper blades that they offer a year warranty with every purchase. While all wipers are high-quality, only the Aero Vogue and Super Silicone blades are refillable.

It can be pretty hard to pick a wiper that best suits your needs with all of this. So let’s do something different, and let’s compare the two best PIAA blades.

PIAA Super Silicone vs Si-Tech

When picking out your favorite silicone wiper blade, you might come across these two PIAA products. They might be from the same manufacturer, but they couldn’t be more different.

The Super Silicone Wiper Blade features a traditional exo-frame design that has extra pressure points for a streak-free wipe. It’s the same as the Si-Tech, but where they differ is in their frame design. The Super Silicone wiper is built with durability in mind—its exo-frame can withstand any weather condition, while the modern Si-Tech design focuses on performance.

I tested both wiper blades, and I can tell you that both are great options. The Si-Tech was slightly faster, but I can see someone using the Super Silicone during a heavy storm or even a hurricane. However, a point in Si-Tech’s favor is that it’s surprisingly good at removing snow and ice.

While both blades are made of silicone, only Super Silicone can use wiper refills. However, it’s a tad disappointing because I liked the Si-Tech, but it’s not the end of the world. If you are thinking about buying this wiper blade, go for it. Other than that, both products come with a 1-year warranty and fit nearly every vehicle on the road.

What Are the Benefits of Silicone Wiper Blades?

For starters, silicone blades perform way better than rubber ones. They also leave behind a water-repellent hydrophobic layer on the windshield, but that’s just the cherry on top. The main advantage comes from the silicone wiper’s durability, and they can last four times as long as the standard rubber blade. The difference is so significant that the silicone wiper’s life is measured in years instead of months. While durability isn’t only limited to their life expectancy, the silicone blade can withstand much harsher conditions than the rubber one.

What’s the catch? That’s what I first asked when I started using silicone wipers. Superior durability and performance come with a premium price. There is no question that silicone wiper blades are much more expensive than their counterparts, but in my opinion, it’s well worth the cost, considering the performance. Silicone blades can not only withstand harsh conditions, but they thrive in them. Take a rubber wiper to a hurricane, and it breaks in two, while silicone will conquer the rain. Not only that, but remember the water-repellent layer? It helps keep your windshield clean, especially on the highways and in towns.

Those are just some of the benefits that come with silicone wipers. Did you know there are different types?

Conventional

These wipers have steel frame construction with three or four blades. They are more efficient at handling muddied windscreens and are perfect for off-road vehicles.

Beam

These wiper blades are more flexible and easily adhere to the curvature of the windshield for better efficiency. This type is used by luxury brands and high-end models.

Hybrid

Hybrid wipers are the best of both worlds. They have an aerodynamic beam cover and metal brackets for an extra layer of protection. Just like their beam siblings, hybrid wipers are more expensive and mainly used in luxury vehicles.

Design: Low-Profile Aerodynamic | Resistance: Sunlight Exposure, UV, Weather | Other Functions: Prevents Ice and Snow Build-up, Water-Repellent Layer, Water Beading Action

We talked about this one more than any of the other PIAA silicone wiper blades. It’s the best product from their line, and it has a ton of features that help make it the very best there is.

PIAA’s patented silicone rubber resists damage from UV and sun exposure. Likewise, their wipers last two times longer than other premium models, not to mention the frameless design and its excellent water-repellent layer. Of course, none of this should come as a surprise given the rigorous testing these wiper blades go through. If it wasn’t already clear, I highly recommend this wiper blade.

Pros
  • Great design and extra durability
  • Prevents ice and snow build-up
  • Water beading action
Cons
  • No wiper refills

Design: Aerodynamic | Resistance: Sunlight Exposure, UV, Weather | Other Functions: Quiet and Streak-Free Wiping, Water-Repellent Layer, Water Beading Action

We have barely talked about this PIAA silicone wiper blade, but it deserves mention. The Aero Vogue Silicone Wiper Blade has an aerodynamic hybrid cover that ensures quiet and streak-free wiping at all speeds. I love it when I am driving on an empty road during a rainy day, and my wiper doesn’t make any noise.

Other than that, like most silicone blades, this one leaves a water-repellent layer, not to mention the quality and durability you would expect from PIAA. The only downside I can think of is that this wiper blade fits only on specific vehicles. So depending on your car, you might want to look at the Super Silicone.

Pros
  • Extra durability
  • Good design
  • Quiet and streak-free wiping and water beading action
Cons
  • Not for every vehicle

Design: Low Profile | Resistance: Sunlight Exposure, UV, Weather | Other Functions: Quiet and Streak-Free Wiping, Water-Repellent Layer, Water Beading Action

This silicone wiper blade is probably the most well-known PIAA product, and for a good reason. However, the thing that makes many people love it is the same reason that I don’t. Of course, I am talking about its design, and the frame resembles more a traditional wiper than any modern product. Other than that, it has damn good performance, not to mention durability.

Although not my favorite design, the frame is aerodynamic with extra pressure points, resulting in quiet and streak-free wiping. Let’s not forget the wiper refills and the water-repellent layer. So if you don’t mind the design, it doesn’t get better than this.

Pros
  • Quiet and streak-free wiping
  • Water beading action
  • Extra durability
Cons
  • Traditional design

Conclusion

Cars constantly have problems. Whether you need a windshield replacement or new wipers, it’s important to stay informed.

So if you are looking for a new wiper blade, then I would strongly recommend PIAA. They are the best brand around, and their quality standard is through the roof. However, they can be a bit more expensive than traditional wipers. If you are alright with that, then consider what the perfect blade will be for your car. From the conventional Super Silicone to the dynamic Aero Vogue, you have options.

While I am partial to the Si-Tech, I would consider gifting my friends all of the PIAA silicone wiper blades for Christmas. Well, maybe only to those who are as crazy about cars as me.
