Subaru Outback Windshield Replacement Cost

The Subaru Outback is an absolute legend among SUVs. Not to mention that its standard all-wheel drive makes it the perfect choice for off-road enthusiasts. As much as I love a good off-road adventure, especially with the Subaru Outback (which I consider one of the best cars ever, period), there are outcomes. Rocks, debris, sand, trees, branches – they are all there to get you. Your windshield is highly likely to be the first thing to get damaged while offroading.

Newer Outbacks with technologies like advanced driver assistance systems and other safety features sometimes don’t stand a chance if your windshield gets a nasty rock chip. You’re left with no choice but to replace your windshield. I know how annoying and stressful it can be (especially for your wallet), so I’m here to help you.

I called several auto shops in various locations all over the US to request windshield replacement prices for different Subaru Outback models. I’ve put together everything I discovered here so you can prepare in advance. I will also tell you a little bit about factors associated with price variations. Let’s go!

Windshield Replacement Cost – Factors

To find out how much it’s going to cost you to replace the windshield of your car, you must first understand that several aspects influence the price. I’ve actually talked about how those factors affect the price of windshield replacement in more detail in my other article, but here’s a quick overview just to get an idea:

  • Location: Location is a determining factor when it comes to vehicle parts costs. You can’t expect the same windshield replacement costs in different states. For instance, Eastern and Northern states have a higher price.
  • Vehicle model year: Newer vehicles have more advanced technology. Several new safety features utilize the windshield as a base. Thus, replacing the windshield also requires these parts to be replaced, resulting in increased windshield replacement costs.
  • Labor Cost: Like the price of vehicle parts, labor costs across different states are not the same. Also, if you opt for a mobile windshield replacement, the cost will be higher.
  • Windshield Type: The type of windshield and the trim level of your car will change the replacement price significantly.

Subaru Outback Windshield Replacement Cost

On average, you have to pay around $700 for a new windshield replacement on your Subaru Outback. The relatively high average price is mainly due to additional costs associated with the recalibration process.

There are other things to consider, though. Subaru Outback has three different windshield replacement options depending on the trim level. Higher trim levels mean more features compared to the standard option. In the following data, I only provided the windshield replacement price for the standard trim level. If you own a higher trim, expect to spend $200 to $300 more.

2020 – 2021 Subaru Outback

The average price for replacing the windshield of your 2020-2021 Subaru Outback is about $800. The lowest price I could find was in Austin, Texas. At $651.88 and the highest price was in an auto shop located in Chicopee, Massachusetts, at $1069.

Don’t be surprised at these costs. As mentioned, newer Outbacks have technologies like rain sensors, windshield cameras, and more safety features that require proper auto glass installation.

2019 Subaru Outback

Not much difference here. The average windshield replacement price for the 2019 model of Subaru Outback is $700-$800.

What I discovered during my research was that in Austin, Texas, the price went down significantly as compared to the 2020-2021 models. While in places like South Dakota and Massachusetts, the cost remained the same. See my table below for more examples.

2018 Subaru Outback

If you have to replace the windshield of your 2018 Subaru Outback, set aside around $750. The cost is similar to newer models, with slight differences in states like South Dakota. Check out for yourself.

2016 – 2017 Subaru Outback

On average, it’s going to cost you around $650 to replace the windshield of your 2016-2017 Subaru Outback.

During my research, I discovered a massive drop in price in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where the price goes from $744.89 to $395.76. It’s not just in Colorado, though. This was the point where I started noticing prices getting cheaper. Naturally, it’s all related to the models being around for quite some time and lacking the windshield technology that Subaru puts in their newer models.

2015 Subaru Outback

Windshield replacement for a 2015 Subaru Outback is around $650-$700.

The price points are similar to the 2016-2017 models so nothing major to report here. Interestingly, however, there was a difference in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I expected the price to be lower than the 2016-2017 models but instead it was a little bit higher. I suspect it might be somewhat related to a lawsuit Subaru faced regarding “windshield cracks appearing out of nowhere” on the 2015 model but I have yet to investigate.

2014 Subaru Outback

For the 2014 Subaru Outback, the average windshield replacement price is around $600.

The 2014 Subaru Outback is the first fifth-generation Outback model, and many new and advanced technological features like an adaptive driving beam, adaptive cruise control, etc., were introduced to improve the driving experience. That’s one of the reasons why we’re still circling around the $600-$700 price mark. Find my findings below for several locations across the US.

2013 Subaru Outback

The average windshield replacement cost for the 2013 Subaru Outback is $600-$700.

During my research, I discovered that the highest price is in Rapid City, South Dakota at $981.61. The lowest price is still in Austin, Texas, at $400.52. Here are some other example costs in various locations:

2011 Subaru Outback

On average, it’s going to cost you around $500-$600 to replace the windshield of your 2011 Subaru Outback.

You would think that a model released 10+ years ago would have lower windshield replacement costs, but that’s not the case with the 2011 Subaru Outback. My research concluded that South Dakota still holds the highest price and Austin, TX, the lowest. Here are some other examples:

Conclusion

The Subaru Outback is of the most affordable SUVs out there so imagine my surprise when my research concluded that the average windshield replacement price is not at all on the affordable side. Still, let’s not forget that the Subaru Outback is an SUV, and similarly to other SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler, windshield replacement costs tend to be higher.

I hope this data helped you better understand how various factors affect the price and how much money you should set aside should the windshield of your Outback has to be replaced.
